Payday loans website ‘The Money Shop’ clinched a last minute sponsorship deal with Dutch Darts legend and former world champion Raymond Van Barneveld, otherwise known as Barney ‘the man’, just days before the start of the PDC Premier League Darts Championship started at the O2 in Grenwich, London last week.

I was tasked at short notice to produce a number of promotional portraits with Barney in front of a plain background for the company’s website and their promotional material that would promote the deal. After a quick introduction with Andrew the company’s PR director, and a very brief setup time indeed I set to work and produced a total of 16 separate portraits in front of both white and black backgrounds.

Straight forward promotional portraits may be all the client requires from a shoot, therefore its important not to get too carried away with Ideas of getting a great editorial style of portrait, especially when time is tight. The aim for any shoot is to fulfill the brief to the nth degree and keep the client coming back to you for all their photographic requirements.
I am not saying that as a photographer your artistic abilities should be put on hold but ‘the client is always right’ and its important to follow direction and get as much input from them during the shoot as possible. You should encourage your clients to e-mail you a detailed shot list, the benefits of which will be evident when time is cut short and the last thing you want is to miss something important.
